Canoeing Basic Skills

 The Canoeing Basic Tandem Course is designed to provide a preliminary foundation of knowledge and skills necessary for calm and close to shore lake paddling. The items chosen for inclusion in this program are of importance to all canoeists as they develop their basic canoeing skills and knowledge to the lake environment. Canoeing Basic Tandem provides the theory and skills necessary for paddling close to shore in a calm lake environment or in a pool environment. The program includes: basic equipment care and knowledge, basic forward and turning skill development, and may include demonstrated rescue techniques. This is an excellent course that can be offered in a 2 – 4 hour workshop session of a paddling event or symposium.

Introduction to Canoe Basic Skills Course 

The successful Canoe Basic Skills candidate is considered a beginner tandem lake canoeist, with knowledge of land and water-based rescues. Aim To introduce novice participants to paddling with a partner, in shelter calm waters. The skills and knowledge gained at this level form the foundation for basic paddling close to shore on sheltered bodies of water. Rescue options are discussed at this level and can be demonstrated by the instructor. Prerequisites None Course length 2 – 4 hours.

 Intermediate Lakewater Tandem/Solo (16 hours)
 Advanced Lakewater Tandem/Solo (16 hours)
