Welcome to Boreal Forest Guides!
Boreal Forest Guides have highly qualified Instructors to lead your activities!
Welcome to Boreal Forest Guides, we look forward to meeting you and can`t wait to share our passion for the outdoors. Four years ago Shawn and Nancy started an exciting new company in Cold Lake called Boreal Forest Guides. They would like to share some of their experiences in the wilderness and hopefully encourage you to enjoy the back country. The goal of this company is to help people feel safe in this beautiful wilderness. We love knowing that there are all of those people out there with the skills to help each other in an emergency situation! We look forward to sharing our knowledge and hopefully picking up a few new tricks, the more you learn, the more there is to learn!
Shawn aka "Shakedown" Perry:
Shawn is passionate about fishing and guiding, he always has a paddle or a fishing rod in his hands and when he doesn't he is watching paddling videos, reading about it, or talking about it! Retired from the military he has been well trained in Leadership, Search & Rescue and Woodsmanship. He is Paddle Canada Canoe certified and a Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard, so rest assured you will be safe on one of his adventures. Shawn is an Advanced Wilderness First Aid instructor and has trained numerous aircrew in the art of winter survival during Ex Frosted Flier. He has guided for professional hunters in Saskatchewan and comes from a long line of New Brunswick, Miramichi River, Canoe/Fishing guides. With a kind heart and a genuine passion for the outdoors he will take you on the adventure of your lifetime!
Nancy aka "Boreal" Perry:
Nancy could swim before she could walk. She is a National Trainer for the Lifesaving Society and teaches multiple leadership courses. Anything to do with water quickly becomes her passion. She is a paddle Canada instructor and has guided many canoe trips over the years... she still believes in a map and a compass! When Nancy heard about paddle board yoga of course she had to dive right in and get certified to teach.
Spend time in the wilderness with Nancy and her passion for nature is infectious. You will suddenly find yourself seeing the little things again, the beauty of a leaf, taste of a flower, texture of a tree. She will guide you on an amazing adventure and empower you to re-connect in Nature!
Rita has been swimming and dancing her entire life, so coming out to Cold Lake to teach swim lessons and dance classes for the summer was a no-brainer. She loves trying new things and with paddling being a big part of Boreal Forest Guides she is now building her paddling skills starting with the Big Canoe Intermediate level leader and Intro to Tandem Lakewater! She has also achieved her status as a National Lifeguard and Swim Lessons Instructor through the Lifesaving Society this year. As for dance, she has traveled to New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Disneyland to perform with her touring team at Dance City Academy in West Kelowna, BC and was invited to dance in Paris. She is absolutely thrilled to be working for Boreal Forest Guides this summer and can't wait to share her knowledge and experiences with all of you!
