Paddle Canada Courses and Certifications

We all love to paddle and Boreal Forest Guides want you to feel confident and safe in on and around the water. Why not come out and try a clinic or even go for a Paddle Canada Certification? We are here to help you with your paddling needs. We can provide all of the equipment or you can bring your own so you are familiar with how your boat handles.


We believe everyone can paddle so if you have a wheelchair to assist in your mobility we can take out a seat in our Big Canoe and get you and your chair out on the water!


Canoes aren't your thing but you still want to Paddle, Inquire about one of our Paddle Board clinics. Working on Rolling your Kayak but can't quite get the hip flick, we can coach you to help you achieve your summer goals!


Waterfront Canoeing Skills Tandem

$50 per Person Length Variable from 2 to 4 hours There is no participant certification for this program.

The Waterfront Tandem Program is designed to provide knowledge and skills necessary for “beachfront” (80×100 m) paddling activities with emphasis on canoeing in a camp style environment. Skills and safety are taught through use of fun games and activities.


Canoeing Basic Skills

$50 per Person Length Variable from 2 to 4 hours There is no participant certification for this program.

Participants are introduced to paddling with a partner close to shore on sheltered bodies of water. Rescue options are discussed at this level and can be demonstrated by the instructor.


Lake Canoe Safety and Rescue Clinic

$50 per Person Length Variable from 2 to 4 hours There is no participant certification for this program.

This clinic provides the opportunity to practice commonly used shore and lake rescue skills such as knowledge, and manoeuvres of rescuing paddlers and equipment. The clinic does not replace other training such as Swiftwater Rescue Training (SRT) or similar training. There is no participant certification for this program. Prerequisites: Canoeing Basics or permission of Instructor.


Lake Canoe Skills Introduction Tandem

$125 One day Certification Course

Novice paddlers are introduced to paddling with a partner in sheltered calm waters and basic land and water rescue techniques.


Lake Canoe Skills Intermediate Tandem

$175 Two Day Certification Course

Participants paddle with a partner on open lake waters and perform skills and manoeuvres with greater refinement and demonstrate confidence in open water environments. Candidates will develop greater awareness of environmental hazards and how to avoid/react to those hazards. Prerequisites: Introduction to Lake Tandem, or permission of instructor based on proof of prior learning of equivalent skill and knowledge.


Lake Canoe Skills Advanced Tandem

$175 Two Day Certification Course

Participants paddle with a partner in open lake waters, to show confidence and ability to paddle in dynamic paddling environments, thus allowing to travel longer distances on open water, and to exhibit leadership that will enable the planning and execution of a day trip in an open water environment in a variety of wind conditions.  The candidate will perform a variety of rescues, strokes, and manoeuvres with emphasis on precision, efficiency and control. Prerequisites: Intermediate Lake Tandem or permission of Instructor based on proof of prior learning of equivalent skill and knowledge.


Lake Canoe Skills Introduction Solo

$125 One day Certification Course

Novice paddlers are introduced to basic land and water rescue techniques in sheltered waters.The skills and knowledge gained at this level form the foundation necessary for confident and safe travel in calm, sheltered paddling environments.

Prerequisites: None or Canoeing Basics


Lake Canoe Skills Intermediate Solo

$175 Two Day Certification Course

Participants will expand their skills necessary to paddle solo on open lake waters, to perform skills and manoeuvres with greater refinement, to demonstrate confidence in open water environments, and to develop a greater awareness of environmental hazards and how to avoid/react to those hazards. Manoeuvres within the Intermediate program require greater precision and control. Prerequisites: Lake Canoe Skills Introduction Solo


Lake Canoe Skills Advanced Solo

$125 One day Certification Course

Participants demonstrate how to paddle solo in open lake waters, to show confidence and ability to paddle in dynamic paddling environments thus allowing to travel longer distances on open water, and to exhibit leadership skills that will enable the planning and execution of a day trip in an open water environment in a variety of wind conditions. Emphasis is placed upon the candidate exhibiting a high degree of precision, efficiency, and control. Prerequisites: Lake Canoe Skills Intermediate Solo


Canoe Tripping Skills Introduction Tandem and Solo

$275 Two Day and one Overnight Candidates each lead for half a day

This course introduces the canoeist to camping skills required to make safe and enjoyable trips on waterways for which they have the skills. Prerequisites: Lake Canoe Skills Intermediate Tandem and/or Introduction to Canoeing Skills Tandem.

Recommended: 16 or more hour First Aid Course
